Finality is a stage at which a transaction becomes permanently confirmed and irreversible on blockchains.

This means that the transaction can not be altered, reversed or cancelled. 

These are cases where  transactions can actually get  altered or reversed.

It happens on most existing Proof of work (PoW) and Proof of Stake(PoS) blockchains e.g in Bitcoin & Ethereum blockchains.

In Probabilistic and Economic finalities,  transactions  can be tempered with through  reorganization of proceeding blocks or through validation.

On Arc blockchain, finality isn't reversed. Transactions are either unconfirmed or 100% irreversible after validation.

Arc achieve this through Malachite, which is a high performance consesus engine.

Malachite consesus engine pairs with  Arc's validation model called  Proof of Authority(PoA).

When 2/3 of Arc Validators using  PoA consesus mechanism  commit blocks to Malachite, the validated transactions become immutable. There is not risk of reorganisation or waiting for more blocks (no risk of reversing the validated transaction). 

This is where  Arc's ability to  achieve sub-second finality comes in.
