If you've ever sent crypto to someone in another country, you already know it's faster than a wire transfer. What you might not have thought about is why that wire transfer was slow in the first place and why fixing it properly is harder than it looks.

The Wire Transfer Problem Nobody Talks About

When you send money internationally through a bank, it doesn't go directly from your account to theirs. It hops through a chain of correspondent banks-intermediaries that have agreements with each other to pass money along. Every hop takes time and a percentage fee.

The World Bank tracked this for years. In 2026, the average cost of sending $200 internationally was still sitting at 6–7%. On a $200 transfer, that's up to $14 gone before the recipient sees a single dollar. And the wait? Anywhere from two to five days, depending on the corridor.

It's not that the banks are deliberately slow. It's that the system was built in batches, Cut-off times and Manual reconciliation. Settlement windows that assume nobody needs money to move at 11pm on a Friday.

The result is a system that's expensive, opaque, and completely unaware that it's 2026.

If you've used USDC on any major chain, you've already experienced what fast settlement actually feels like. You send, they receive, it's done. No correspondent banks, No cut-off times, Sub-minute finality on most networks.

The problem is that most chains weren't designed for payments as a primary use case. They were designed for trading, for DeFi, for NFTs. Gas fees fluctuate with network congestion, fine when you're swapping tokens, annoying when you're trying to run payroll for 500 contractors and the fee changes between the time you queued the transaction and the time it executes.

There's also the gas token problem. You bridge USDC to a new chain, but now you need ETH or MATIC or whatever the native token is just to move your USDC. It's an extra step that makes no sense to anyone who just wants to send money. These aren't dealbreakers for traders. For payments, they add up.

 Currency conversion is one of the biggest hidden costs in cross-border payments. Most chains make you route through a DEX or an external bridge if you need to move between currencies. Arc has FX support built directly into the protocol, conversion happens inside the transaction, not as a separate hop.

 This one is for businesses operating in regulated environments. You can keep transaction details private while still meeting the auditability requirements that enterprise accounting and regulators expect. It's not a workaround; it's a first-class feature of the protocol.

 The average individual remittance is around $200-$300. At 6–7% fees, a meaningful chunk of every transfer disappears before it arrives. On Arc, USDC settles in under a second with predictable fees that don't scale with transfer size the way correspondent banking fees do. The recipient gets more, faster.

 If you've ever had to pay contractors or remote workers in multiple countries, you know the operational headache. Local banking rails, batch windows, FX desks, manual reconciliation after. On Arc, you can batch a payout to hundreds of recipients in a single transaction, 24 hours a day. The funds are in USDC, spendable immediately, no native gas token required to move them.

 This one is less consumer-facing but worth understanding. When businesses settle invoices across borders, the coordination between buyer, supplier, and bank is often manual and slow. Arc's smart contract infrastructure lets you set up atomic settlement-payment releases when delivery conditions are met, automatically, with both sides able to verify the transaction onchain in real time.

The global remittance market moved $857 billion in 2023. Most of it went through the same infrastructure that's been in place for decades. The technical capability to do better has existed for years, the gap has been a blockchain designed specifically for this use case, with the stability and predictability that financial applications actually need.

That's what Arc is positioned to be. Not a general-purpose chain that payments can technically run on but a financial settlement layer where predictability, compliance, and speed were baked in from the start.
